Winter Protocols

MDOT White Shoulder Policy is that Shoulders will only be plowed on Overtime when an excess of 2" of snow has accumulated. This policy will be followed by all RCRC forces.

                                                                                                                      

MDOT HIGHEST PRIORITY ROUTES : "ORANGE"                                                                                                      

RCRC will follow the  MDOT Winter Operations Guidelines for "Orange Level Of Service".                  

Orange Routes will be brought to a relatively snow and ice free condition even on an Overtime Basis.      

Orange Routes Include:                                                                                 

I-75 (all) Including Ramps and Rest Areas

US-127 (all) Including Ramps and Rest Areas


MDOT MEDIUM PRIORITY ROUTES: "BLUE"

RCRC will follow the MDOT Winter Operations Guidelines for "Blue Level Of Service".

Blue Routes will be brought to a relatively snow and ice free condition on one inside track in each direction while on Overtime and brought to an Orange level as soon as practical on a Straight time basis. This can be as continuation from an early call in or during the next normal work day period.

Blue Routes Include:

M-55 (all) Including all Major Intersections

M-157 (all)

M-18 (all) Including all Major Intersections

I-75 (Old 76) Business Loop (all) - Federal Highway  Including all Major Intersections

All RCRC Primary Roads will be brought only to the Blue Level of Service while on Overtime based on the following guidelines.



GREEN RCRC ROUTES:

Green Routes include the Highest Volume County Primary Roads. Green Routes will be cleared when an excess of 1-3" of snowfall has occurred or if Icy Conditions Prevail. Salt will be the primary product used to remove hard pack and ice. Sand will be used on an as needed basis. Shoulders should not be plowed on an Overtime basis until at least 3" of snow has fallen (pre-plowing). The "fog line" is to be exposed on all routes when possible.

Green Routes Include:

Old 76 (from M-18 to CR 103)

CR 100 (all)

CR 106 (all)

CR 101 (all)

CR 104 (from CR 100 to the US-127 Interchange

Old 27 (from CR 104 to CR 400 Snowbowl Rd.)

CR 400 (from US-127 Interchange to M-18)

CR 401 (from CR 400 to M-55)

F-97 (from Old 76 north to the County Line)

Old 76 (from M-55 north to the F-97 split)

Towerhill Rd. (from M-55 to CR 400)

Townline Rd. (from M-55 to CR 400)

Old 76 (from F-97 to CR 103)

CR 305 (all)



RED RCRC ROUTES:

Red Routes include the Medium Volume County Primary Roads. Red Routes will be cleared on Overtime when an excess of 3-6" of snowfall has occurred or if Icy Conditions Prevail. 50/50 Sand/Salt Mixture will be the primary product used to remove hard pack and ice or to assist with traction. Sand will be used on an as needed basis. Shoulders should be cleared as well but attention should be paid to reducing blade pressure so as not to damage the shoulder pavement or aggregate.

Red Routes Include:

CR 603 (from M-18 to F-97 at Kirtland)

F-28 (from F-97 east to the County Line)

CR 103 (from M-18 to North Higgins Lake Rd.)

CR 200 (from CR 104 to Old 27)

CR 202 (from CR 104 to CR 200)

Old 27 (from CR 104 north to the County Line)

CR 300 (from CR 100 to  Old 27)

Old 27 (from CR 400 south to the County Line)

CR 304 (all)

CR 306 (all)

CR 401 Iroquois (all)

F-97 (from St Helen south to the County Line)



PURPLE RCRC ROUTES:

Purple Routes Include the Lower Volume Primary Roads and Higher Volume Local Roads. Purple Routes will be cleared on Overtime when an excess of 6" of snowfall has occurred or if Icy Conditions  Prevail. Sand (w/4% Salt) will be the primary product used to aid with traction and or stopping. 50/50 mixture of Sand/Salt can be used on an as needed basis subject to approval. Shoulders should not be plowed until the next available Straight Time Shift. Reduced blade pressure should be followed.

Purple Routes Include:

CR 104 (from US-127 Interchange northwest to the County Line)

CR 301 (from CR 104 north to the County Line)

West Higgins Lake Rd. CR 200 north to the County Line)

CR 201 (CR 200 to Old 27)

CR 300 (from Old 27 to M-55)

CR 303 (from CR 300 to M-55)

CR 400 (from US-127 Interchange west to end of Primary Rd.)

CR 402 (from Old 27 west to US-127 Bridge)

CR 401 (from CR 400 south to end of Primary Rd.)

CR 107 (all)

Lake James Rd. (all), Springwood Rd.(all), Main St. (all)

CR 102 (all)

CR 105 (all)

F-18 (from F-97 east to the County Line)

Airport Rd. (from Lake St. Helen east to end of pavement)

CR 602 (all)
